So, this is where I am. Had, what felt like my energy crashing, it had a similar feel to when I was in India treking a few years ago, when my thyroid and/adrenals crashed. It kinda scared me. I clearly see being in a new environment that I am not familiar with, is not compatible with changing my diet over night. In all honesty it wasn't so much going "raw" as it was not being prepared. I did not have my blender, food processor, or even my dehydrator yet. They all arrived this week though so I have some great recipes to share that I started off with.
Not used to being in a large city where running to the store is not a 1/2 hour run as I am used to. In fact it's a half a day! So it doesn't seem worth it unless you plan on doing some major shopping. But it is necessary for me to take some time to get used to prioritizing and organizing my time. Something that does not come easy with all this other change happening. Regardless though, I am still staying my course and intend to get where I was headed, which is going all raw this summer. It just may not happen completely over night. I clearly have had a way of eating, just finally getting the vegan thing down.
I have been vegan for several years, but would integrate tofu, eggs or even fish on occasion when my energy plummeted. But a regular meal of brown rice, beans and a healthy dose of veggies seemed to be a good mainstay for me. I may now allow myself this one meal a day, if my energy seems low. I assume my body became accustomed to getting my protein from this source and may need a little more integrative time to get used to extracting what I need from this new all raw diet. I believe it is all there, just as did with the vegan diet, but I think my body needs some time to adjust.
Since I received some of my toys in the mail, it was time to play a little. I made a fabulous cocoa nib ice cream that was all raw. (recipe following). Today I will be breaking in my new dehydrator with raw focaccia bread!
I have juiced alot and have made a large salad as a mainstay every evening. I have started taking enzymes and have doubled up my maca tincture. I also reordered my spirulina tabs, since the powder is a hit or miss. I enjoy it in my smoothies when I have them, but they have not been a daily thing yet. I have added this to my dressing on occasion, but I clearly need more of the superfoods, specifically the spirulina, maca and hemp seeds, which my body loves. If I keep these three items in my diet regularly it usually keeps my energy on a more even keel.
Tomorrow we will have our first all "raw" breakfast here at The Desoto Inn. I will be making raw focaccia, with marinated veggies. I will also serve a raw granola, with fresh raw almond milk. Juice will most likely be orange, carrot and apple since that is what I have at the moment.
If you try out the recipe, be aware that the mammy fruit is something that seems to be abundant here at the flea market here in Hollywood, but it was new to me. However, I was told it was similar to the lucuma, which gave me the idea in the first place with making the ice cream out of it. I unfortunately do not have an alternative, but the meat of it looked more like a papaya. Good luck!
