The Raw Blog...Disappearing Act(6/22/12)

(originally published 6/22/12)
Ok, I am back. I clearly see with my schedule that daily blogging is just going to be more misses than hits, so I have decided to shoot for at least twice a week. Trying to pull off a seven day breakfast gig at the Desoto Inn this summer sounded like a peachy deal, but once clientele doubled this week, it was like trying to run a restaurant out of a dorm apartment. For every two hours creating their breakfast is at least an hour clean up, and then add 20-25 hours a week just keeping food stocked...whew. And then there is just all that menu planning. With one day just leading into the next, it's like I was trying to outdo myself from one day to the next, I was exhausting myself.
Enter a little self-coaching and a little reality check from my partner Robin to keep me on track of what I am wanting to do here. It is so easy to get caught up in what other people want, and then there is just me trying to constantly up myself so things don't seem so status quo. Continental breakfast with something extra started looking like a seven course meal! Reality crash! Yet it is so hard for me to say 'no'. But 'no' is a must. Lesson number 657 learned, maybe....yes, yes it is learned, she says squeamishly. I am a terrible liar. And I bullshit practically no one but myself.
So where do I go from here? Well let me start by saying where I have been, other than trying make sure this part of Hollywood FL has been fed a healthy breakfast.
I have made a huge salad virtually every night for dinner for a couple weeks now. It has been the mainstay of my attempt at an all-raw diet. Pretty much every morning starts with a raw juice. I make this for our guest every day, along with raw almond milk, so I have juice every day myself, if not both juice and the raw milk. I usually do some taste testing, so some of each get down one way or other.
I also have been having my "Radically Raw Fridays", here at the Desoto Inn, so the left-over Raw Focaccia bread and raw nut cheese has done well in keeping any hunger pangs at bay. I also must say the probiotics in the cheese has made a quick noticeable different in my gut.
In between what sounds like a pretty good course of action lies the fact that I cook for the other days of the week, which lends itself to me not being able to get away from all the taste testing. Granted its not the worst food, but alot of it is carbs, and even though it's spouted grains for the most part, it still has those processed carbs that my tongue seem to love and my body loves so much it applies it all directly to my hips and belly.
Well that's where I have been,so...what's my goal for this up-coming week?
Well, I do believe the weekend off will be of assistance! And so keeping to the all-raw on the weekend will be my golden rule. Keeping the raw salad at night is certainly do-able. I think making sure I have a second juice or smoothie before I go out is also a must. Shopping in larger cities is like day trip for me still, rather than just a hop over to the store and back ( I am from Montana, after all), and I have been caught off-guard several times being out when I start to realize I have not eaten lunch and it is now dinner time.
I think that is where I should stop. See how this goes, its not feasible right now for me to not make my leftovers as my lunch, which has been the case. I give the eggs away, but the sautéed veggie dishes are not likely to to be passed over by me yet. I will hold that for next month's agenda.
I will be posting many of last week's recipes in upcoming blogs, particularly those our guests found noteworthy. In addition to my semi-weekly posts on my own journey of an all-raw diet, I will try to post the recipes on Thursdays for the regular vegan diet, and on Monday I will give you a heads up on my "Radically Raw Friday", how it turned out and to share any recipes I found, or came up with.
Namaste
